Artists’ review
My first pick at graphic designer is Peter Max. You can read on his web site ”Peter Max is a multi-dimensional creative artist. He has worked with oils, acrylics, water colors, finger paints, dyes, pastels, charcoal, pen, multi-colored pencils, etchings, engravings, animation cells, lithographs, serigraphs, silk screens, ceramics, sculpture, collage, video and computer graphics. He loves all media, including mass media as a “canvas” for his creative expression.” However I remember watching the yellow submarine over and over again when I was a kid. My mom also had on of his first book he had published. His creative use of layers and color has influenced some of my artwork. I have always enjoyed his art it must be that free hippy sprit that I see when I look at his art. I have updated my yellow submarine tape to DVD and still watch it from time to time for color inspiration. Also I think he is one of the best graphic artist out there.
My second pick for graphic artist is Basquet born In Brooklyn he came up as a graffiti artist that had made it into the mainstream in the early 80’s. With help from other artist like Warhol he raised all the way to the top of NY art scene. I picked him because his image and word where look at as fine art even though it was street art that looked like graffiti. He really paved the way for many other graffiti artist.
My last choice for an artist really is not a graphic artist. However MC Escher’s art is so well know and resold. His prints art might found in every architects bedroom. His graphic drawings of tessellations are amazing. His use of negative space in a sketch is the best. It will trick the best-trained eye, with a swift and subtle illusions. He has inspired the 3d side of my art work.

Art Event #1
On April 5 2009, I decided to go see a movie, not just a Hollywood block buster but a limited art house release. I went to see a limited release movie at landmark theaters in Hillcrest. The movie I saw was Che part1. I thought it was a bit scrappy in construction, the stories a bit hard to follow at times. Until you see just about the whole movie and it all come together. It was highly entertaining, with exciting action sequences. The acting is good; also sense it is in Spanish it really draws the view in. Overall I really like the movie; I learned a great deal about Che life, his participation in the liberation of Cuba as well as how big of a deal he was when the USA detained him for questioning. I enjoyed take the time on my spring vacation to go and see a great movie.
Art Event#2
Every year for Earth Day celebration I like to go to Balboa Park. It is always a good idea to go and enjoy the festivities around April 20 or so. They have many booths set up on how we can help save the earth. Another reason I like to attend this weekend celebration is because every year in front of the world beat center. The world beat center puts on a free reggae concert. It always a good show, this year on of my favorite reggae artist was there to perform. I have been a fan of her work sense 1996. When one of my high school friends used to bump the Sister Carol in his truck every time we left school. I brought back many old memories of hanging out enjoying or summer way back when the water was warm and the fun was free. So as you can tell I really enjoyed my day at Balboa Park.
Art Event#3
This art event was not intended to be an art event at all. However when I went to spin night club on a Saturday night I was taken by surprise to see that the club had been set up into an artist carnival like circus took over the whole club. They had midget clowns and it was a real twisted sight. They had women swinging on hoop 20 feet of the ground twirling on ribbons of fabric. It really looks like Circ De Sole. It turned out it was not them but a group of San Diego based group of people that have just about the same bag of tricks as the OG Circ De Sole. In between the dancing and swinging, they had little skits that the other performers all participated in, many where risqué and I thought to be inappropriate. Although it was in a dance club and I think they were pushing some of there skits to be on the edge of sexy weird. I enjoyed the overall performance it made for a surreal club night, something I’m not used to seeing in a dance club.
David Carson
March 4, 2009
After watching a bit on David Carson, A famous graphic design for skateboard, snowboarding etc… I was impressed with his page layout and use of text size, layout, and design; to complement the idea conveyed in the adds over all message. it has been described as grunge typography. very punk rock, he has distorted the line between what is readable and not readable. he stated it like this, just because some thing is legible does not make it readable.
1000 Jounals
February 18, 2009
somebody had a real cool idea to send out 1000 Journals that were blank. As these journals were distributed/ circulated around people had a chance to add there own mark in each book. he has only received one book back that was completed. Somebody also has set up a web based directory where people can sign up to be the next in line for a journal. I think this experiment is great movement socially and artistically. The book have become there own entities though this process of exchange. I thought it was funny that people were so attached to their experience they had with the book.
spread it on.

Cai Guo Qiang
January 28, 2009
Explosive!!! He used fire works and other media but his use of the explosive is what I was impressed by. Also his metaphor on art. Relating the sexual experience to completing a piece of art. The sketch is like the lying down the sheets, all culminating in a result that can only have two out comes. Either an explosive masterpiece of happiness or in total disappointment.
Mark Bradford
January 28, 2009
In this interesting video I was introduced to the artist Mark Bradford. He is an example bizarre colleague art. He would use signs that were posted up in urban areas. Taken out of the context they were originally designed to advertises he transformed them into charged political and social art commentaries. By using many different media to produce his finished pieces. He also played with the viewers point of perception in a few Pieces. I think the one where he used soccer ball sculpture next to a painting was the best. He stated it as using two types of art to be placed together to create a third type / response. This was defiantly a unique out look on this type of art.

Barry was a well know graffiti artist Margaret was an sign painter they both did exceptional art. I enjoyed learn about there outlooks on art and what it meant to them. I found what they had to say about public art very interesting. Also I agreed with there view on public and private art.
